Life On The Homestead

My name is Matthew, and my journey to becoming a painter, handyman and business owner started long before Autumn Painting ever existed. I moved to Helena Montana in 1989 entering eighth grade. My family and I built our log home by hand — piece by piece, from the ground up.

For years we lived without power, running water, or modern conveniences, which meant one thing: if something needed to be done, we had to figure out how to do it ourselves. That upbringing taught me self-reliance, problem-solving, and the value of hard, honest work. Those same lessons are the foundation of the business I run today.

Apprentice Days

I began my journey in the trades as a painting apprentice in Helena, Montana while still in high school. Working alongside experienced painters, I learned the fundamentals the right way—proper prep, attention to detail, and the pride that comes from doing quality work. Those early mornings and long days on job sites taught me discipline, craftsmanship, and the value of earning trust through hard work, lessons that continue to shape how I approach every painting project today. That’s how Autumn Painting & Handyman Services was born.

Life in the Military

After graduating from high school, I went on to serve 21 years in the military, where I strengthened the discipline, integrity, and attention to detail that I bring into every home I work in. When I returned to Montana, I knew I wanted to build something meaningful — something that served families and homeowners right here in the place that shaped me.

Autumn Painting Years

Today, I help Helena homeowners with painting, repairs, carpentry, seasonal maintenance, and all the practical projects that make life easier. I take pride in doing things the right way — with craftsmanship, clear communication, and respect for your home and your space with expert craftsmanship and the vibrant, warm hues of fall.
